Eco two-level retreat at Lake Atitlán, Guatemala — set low on our boutique hillside in San Marcos La Laguna, with a mezzanine lounge, a private compost toilet, and the largest private terrace on the property.
Queen-size bed with organic cotton linens, Starlink Wi-Fi, and a fire pit under the stars. Optional traditional Maya breakfast served on your terrace.
Showers shared between just 5 yurts and the Loft; the toilet is yours alone — intimate by design. A 15-minute walk from San Marcos La Laguna.
The space
The Loft is our most spacious individual accommodation — a two-level space tucked low on the hillside, designed around indoor comfort and a large outdoor terrace shaded by the surrounding vegetation.
Upstairs, a mezzanine lounge with a couch — a quiet corner for a book, a slow afternoon, or simply more room to breathe. Downstairs, a queen-size bed dressed in organic cotton linens, and a private en-suite compost toilet. Outside, the largest private terrace on the property, set into the greenery and built for long mornings with coffee and unhurried evenings.
This is the accommodation for guests who want a little more space and a little more independence — couples on longer stays, travellers who like to spread out, anyone who values a proper indoor lounge and a private bathroom in addition to the bedroom.
Fuego Atitlán is a small boutique eco-hotel, and the Loft is built to reflect that — handcrafted by local Maya Kaqchikel artisans, raised to leave the land intact, lit by solar energy and served by solar-heated showers.
Optional traditional Maya breakfast available on request — handmade tortillas, local eggs, seasonal fruit, a smoothie, and highland coffee grown on the slopes around the lake, served on your terrace.
Guest access
Your loft is entirely yours — private terrace, private interior, private mezzanine lounge, private compost toilet, your own pace.
Shared with the other guests: · Solar-heated showers · Fully equipped outdoor kitchen · Fire pit and communal lounge area · Trails through the highland vegetation
Other things to note
The property sits on a volcanic hillside above Lake Atitlán — uneven paths and some steps between areas. The Loft sits low on the property and is one of the easier accommodations to reach, with a short walk from the entrance.
The Loft does not have a lake or volcano view — the terrace is set into the surrounding vegetation. For accommodations with direct lake and volcano views, see The Lake, Breeze, Summit and Sky Yurts.
The mezzanine is accessed by an internal staircase — worth knowing if you have mobility considerations.
Compost toilets are clean and odour-free — we're happy to walk you through them on arrival if it's your first time.
Tuk-tuks and boats from San Marcos La Laguna connect you to other towns around Lake Atitlán. We're happy to help with onward travel.
